Reviews

Notes taken on the various dicsussions on the review day.

  • Cataloging
  • juxtaposision of industy/landscape - infrastructure and the community
Can you ever fully design anything - there must be some level of inhabitation and use of the structure/object, which might be very different to the intended use (link to theory - basins)

Construction of our sites over this term - theoretically, economically, culture and population.

Possible exercises to do:
  • roads/metro/train/tram/boat/coast - connections and cutting through
  • old/new/future
  • relationship between the built and the infrastructure - beer drops/cellars
Our review - Sound Mapping

  • performance - interactions with the city
  • manipulating the fabric of the city - voids/sea edge etc. - looking at a material language
  • steam - pressure - voids, holding, large/small
Cheap space - surrounding many of these infrastructural elements of the city - how does this effect the use of the space? Can new uses feed off of this decline of land values?

Introductory Design Lecture

Pointing out the various aspects of the course which we will be investigating this term.

  • identifying parts of the city we wish to work in/investigate.
  • crafting of a 'Thesis Argument'. Starting by looking for key themes (glossary of terms) which have surfaced from the house for an outsider and the Field Trip.
  • working both at an architectural and a conceptual level. (what does the city have to deal with and how can this help be implemented). Do these has a current relevance to society/economy etc?)
  • background research of themes and theory.

Design Report: a playing out of the thesis, abstracting and unpacking.

For this term to be an ongoing investigation and reinterpreting of work
